Laser skin rejuvenation, also known as laser skin resurfacing or photo facial, is a procedure designed to improve the appearance of your skin. This non-invasive procedure can be used on all different types of skin and treats a range of issues including acne scars, wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots. It uses concentrated light to remove wrinkles and other signs of aging. If you’re considering laser skin rejuvenation as a treatment, you may be wondering how it works.
What is laser skin rejuvenation used for?
As the name suggests, laser skin rejuvenation is used to improve the appearance of skin that has aged. This can mean smoothing out wrinkles, removing spots that reveal aging, and other deformities associated with the aging process. Your skin is the first line of defense against the elements. As such, it takes the brunt of the world around you which can cause aging to accelerate on the skin in a way it does not any other place on the body.
What are the treatment areas for laser skin rejuvenation?
The most typical place for laser skin rejuvenation treatment is the face. However, that’s not the only place treatment can be. The neck area, chest, and hands are also ideal spots to take away typical aging signs.
How many treatments are required?
We tend to recommend a minimum of 4 to 5 treatments in an area to get the best results. The time between each treatment is around 4 weeks. While this is a long period for treatment, it will result in improved skin texture and lessened pore size which aids not only in the de-aging process but allows you to slow down and prevent further aging.
What is the downtime like during and after treatment?
The short answer is no. There’s no downtime you have to worry about. You can return to normal activities immediately following treatment. However, you should avoid hot tubs and saunas while your skin is red and healing. It is recommended that you avoid sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanning lotion in the areas treated for 2 months after treatment. You must apply sunscreen daily to maintain the desired effect on your skin. Detailed aftercare instructions will be provided to you by Dr. Sohayda at the time of your treatment.
What are the side effects?
You may notice some mild redness after the treatment that will resolve over 24 to 48 hours. During this time be mindful of your skin and try to keep it from coming into contact with any perfumed lotions or extreme temperature waters. Occasionally mild swelling is present as well. On rare occasions, pigment changes or infections may occur.
