Unwanted facial and leg veins can be a source of discomfort and self-consciousness, but with the advancement of laser technology, these unsightly veins can now be treated effectively and safely.

So let’s talk about the Nd:Yag laser.

Weird name but amazing technology!

With its unique design and longer wavelength, this laser offers a non-invasive solution that targets both tiny superficial face veins and deeper blue leg veins on all skin tones. If you’re considering laser vein treatment, here’s what you can expect before, during and after the procedure.

Understanding the Laser Treatment

The Nd:Yag laser is a state-of-the-art vascular laser system designed to treat a wide range of vein types, from tiny spider veins to deeper reticular veins. The term “Nd” (which stands for Neodymium-doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet) is a crystal used as a lasing medium for solid-state lasers. This crystal generates the specific wavelength of light that targets the hemoglobin in veins, producing heat that causes the veins to shrink and gradually disappear. The result? A clearer complexion and smoother skin without the need for painful injections.

During the Treatment

Preparation and Consultation

Before your treatment, you’ll have a consultation to discuss your specific concerns and goals. Your provider will explain the procedure, assess the area to be treated, and provide you with protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the laser light.

The Treatment Process

The actual laser treatment is relatively quick, typically taking between 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. The laser is applied to the skin, emitting a wavelength of light that penetrates and targets the veins.

Sensation During the Procedure

While the treatment is not painful, you may feel a slight warmth or a brief stinging sensation as the laser pulses. Most patients find this sensation to be mild and tolerable, and it lasts only for a few seconds.

After the Treatment

One of the biggest advantages of laser vein treatment is the minimal downtime involved. Here’s what you can expect post-treatment:

Immediate Recovery:

Recovery time varies depending on the size of the treatment area, but it typically ranges from a couple of hours to a few days. Most patients can return to their usual activities immediately 2-5 days  after the treatment.

Results and Follow-Up:

Many patients notice improvement after just one session, but depending on the severity and size of the veins, a series of three to five treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired results. The treated veins will gradually fade over a few weeks as the body naturally clears them away.

Minimal Side Effects:

Thanks to the laser’s advanced technology, side effects like bruising or blistering are minimal. You may experience some redness or mild swelling immediately after the treatment, but this typically subsides within a few hours.
