Microblading is a form of manual permanent cosmetics that allow you to have natural looking thicker eyebrows by method of permanent hair stroke tattoos. The result is natural looking thick brows that stick around permanently. This works by applying pigment to the skin by way of several fine needles to mimic hair marks on the skin. It’s not going in deep, the pigment only enters the epidermis, the shallow portion of your skin’s first layer. Thanks to selective pigment and following natural hair growth patterns, a realistic effect is achieved in a short period.
But how should you prepare for a microblading appointment? Below you can find information on how to best prepare yourself for the appointment and what you should expect for a few days prior to the procedure.
Know how long the appointment lasts
Your microblading appointment will generally last about 2 hours. Block out the time for it and make sure you’ve got all your arrangements made in advance. Children and infants may not be present for the procedure and we cannot care for them in our facility.
Prepare the night before
This means specifically about what you ear, or rather, what you shouldn’t eat. You should not consume any alcohol or caffeine within 24 hours of a procedure. Further, you should not consume any aspirin products, niacin, vitamin E, or fish oil within 48 hours of a procedure. This is for a variety of health reasons that include blood thinning issues, among others. Make sure to get a full list from your provider about what not to consume before treatment, well before your appointment.
Be wary of your health
There are certain things that can make microblading harmful and potentially dangerous. Contraindications for microblading include: any cold or flu-like symptoms, skin irritations such as recent sunburn or outbreak of acne, pregnancy or nursing, diabetes, epilepsy, transmittable blood disease, pacemakers or any heart conditions, and others. The procedure should only be taken by an adult 18 years of age or older.
Prepare your skin
It’s important to treat your skin right prior to your appointment. This means you should not have had a botox treatment within 4 weeks of your appointment, not performed any eyebrow waxing for 2-3 days prior to treatment, and not sought out a sun tan or gotten a sunburn that is still active at the time of your appointment.
What about after my procedure?
The procedure can be uncomfortable and a little painful for some, so expect some redness and sensitivity for a few days after your appointment. You’ll be instructed to use a post-care ointment and will want to avoid any form of exercise (or activity that could result in sweat) and be careful not to you get your eyebrows wet. Avoid makeup for at least week. You should start to notice the full results after 30 days and we generally recommend a retouch once a year.
