About Botox and Dysport Treatments
Visible lines and wrinkles are something everyone contends with as their skin ages. Lines around the eyes, between the brows and on the forehead can be drastically reduced or even erased with Botox treatments. Depending on the endpoint desired we can achieve subtle to dramatic results. Botox treatments are a great option for lines and wrinkles on the face as it involves little downtime and can easily be done in as little as 10 minutes. Botox has become one of the most popular treatments to combat aging due to its fast results, affordability, and safety of the treatments. Results are noticed within 2-3 days. Several areas or just one area of the face can be treated.
Want to look more refreshed? Would you like to remove that “scowl” look? Botox is the answer. Botox is referred to as “liquid gold”. Treatments are quick, easy, and last 3-4 months. Stop the progression before the lines get more sever to increase better results. The maximum benefit is seen around 2 weeks with the effects lasting 3 to 4 months. As the Botox effect gradually wears off, your skin will return to its normal state where it would stay without additional treatment. However, the best results are obtained with a consistent treatment regimen.
Along with Botox, Dysport is one of the most widely administered prescription cosmetic injectables for softening moderate to severe facial wrinkles and lines without changing the look or movement of the rest of your face. The muscles are simply relaxed, delivering natural-looking results.

What is Botox® Cosmetic?
Botox® Cosmetic is a purified protein that is injected in small doses into the muscles. The injected protein blocks nerve impulses in the muscles and allows the muscle to relax, thereby allowing the skin to gradually smooth out and facial lines to fade.
Where is Botox® used?
Botox® is effective for treating wrinkles that occur with facial expression (dynamic wrinkles) in the area between the eyebrows, forehead and around the eyes (crow’s feet). Botox® can also prevent wrinkles and facial creases from deepening over time by keeping the muscles relaxed.
When does Botox® start to work and how long will it last?
The results of the Botox® injections appear between 2 to 10 days after treatment. The effect will last from 3 to 5 months. The good news is that consecutive treatments can lead to longer results, ultimately reducing the long-term cost.
Who is a good candidate for Botox®?
The best candidates for treatment are individuals between the ages of 25 and 65. Botox® is effective for dynamic wrinkles which occur with facial expression in the area between the eyebrows, on the forehead and around the eyes.
What is the Botox® procedure like?
The procedure takes only 10 to 15 minutes. The injections are done with a micro-needle with minimal discomfort. Most patients compare the sensation to a light pinch. No sedation or anesthesia is required. However, you may be advised to treat the area with an ice pack prior to treatment.
Is there any downtime?
No. You are able to return to normal activities immediately following treatment. However, it is recommended that you avoid exercise, recurrent bending, heavy lifting and massaging of the area for at least 4 hours after treatment.
Are there any side effects of the treatment?
There may be temporary swelling, redness, bruising, headache or local discomfort. Rarely, there may be a mild lowering of the eyelid. This is temporary and resolves in a few weeks. Some patients may have an uneven or incomplete response to Botox®.
Who should not receive Botox® injections?
Patients with certain neuromuscular disorders such ALS, myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at an increased risk of serious side effects. Botox® should not be used in the presence of infection at the injection sites or in individuals known to have a hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation. Also, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not receive treatment.
Where is Dysport used?
Dysport reduces the appearance of lines that primarily affect the glabella, the area in between your eyebrows. These lines extend upward, or vertically, toward the forehead. They are especially noticeable when a person frowns. While Dysport can help treat glabella wrinkles, it’s only meant for people who have either moderate or severe cases. This procedure isn’t recommended for mild glabella lines. Your dermatologist can help you tell the difference between mild and moderate wrinkles of this type.
What are the differences between Botox® and Dysport?
Dysport and Botox are both types of botulinum toxin injections. While used to treat muscle spasms in certain health conditions, these two injections are primarily known for the treatment and prevention of wrinkles. The differences lie in the potency of trace proteins, which can make one more effective than the other. Botox® is used for the lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), forehead lines, crow’s feet, and around the eyes. Dysport is used for glabellar lines.
