Collagen induction therapy is also known as micro-needling. This procedure uses a small handheld device with fine medical grade stainless steels needles attached. At Essex Medspa, we use the SkinPen a revolutionary device that allows each treatment to be customized to meet each individual’s needs. SkinPen’s highspeed treatment allows for a more comfortable experience and improved clinical efficacy.
About SkinPen Microneedling
This treatment promotes collagen and elastin production and breaks down scar tissue. As new cells proliferate, collagen and elastin fibers form as well as new capillaries for improved blood supply.
What conditions can be treated and improved with Collagen Induction Therapy?
Multiple skin conditions can be treated with the SkinPen. In fact, collagen induction therapy is a great alternative to laser skin treatments. Fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, skin texture and pigmentation as well as acne scarring and stretch marks can be improved with this treatment.
What areas of the skin can be treated with Collagen Induction Therapy?
Several areas of the body can benefit from this treatment, including face, chest, neck, abdomen and thighs.
Is there any downtime?
Although the downtime will be dependent on the depth of penetration of the SkinPen, it is usually very limited. The skin may be slightly pink or red for a few hours up to a few days after treatment. The skin may begin to feel a little tight a day or two after treatment.
When will I see results from the treatment?
Some dryness and tightness will be noticed within the first week after treatment but the full effect of the treatment is noticed at 6 to 8 weeks. Ideally, a series of 4 treatments is recommended and should be spaced 3 to 5 weeks apart.
What can I do to enhance the results of my treatment?
PRP, or platelet rich plasma, can be used during your collagen induction treatment to enhance results and minimize downtime even more. PRP is obtained by drawing a small amount of blood during your appointment. The blood is spun down to obtain only the PRP. This serum, rich in your own natural growth factors, aids in the repair process of the skin and enhances collagen stimulation. The PRP is applied to your skin during your SkinPen treatment to get maximum efficacy. The results of PRP are long lasting, with effects being seen up to 18 to 24 months after treatment.
Are there any contraindications to this treatment?
This treatment is not suitable for anyone who has skin infections, is pregnant or lactating, has open wounds in the area being treated, history of keloids or poor wound healing, or recent radiation treatments. Please note that if you have a history of herpes simplex outbreaks, you may require pretreatment with viral suppressive medications.
